Short answer: spare the first chicken in The Coop for about one minute

Item

Details

Unlock

Wait about one real-time minute in The Coop without killing the first chicken

Attack

Creates a teardrop-shaped zone in the faced direction and may defang enemies

Evolution

Level 8 Gaze of Gaea + Parm Aegis = Embrace of Gaea

The achievement wording about defeating zero enemies in The Coop does not mean that you must quit a run with zero kills. Enter The Coop, leave the first chicken alive, and wait in the starting area for about one real-time minute.

How to unlock Gaze of Gaea

  1. Select The Coop.
  2. Choose a character with no starting attack or one that cannot damage the first chicken immediately.
  3. Do not kill the first chicken.
  4. Wait about one real-time minute for the unlock event.

The stage timer may remain stopped until the chicken is defeated. That does not prevent this unlock. Avoid taking an attack weapon while waiting.

How the weapon works

Gaze of Gaea creates a teardrop-shaped damaging zone in the direction the character faces. It also has a chance to defang enemies, reducing their threat.

Aim the zone into the incoming group. Since it does not constantly cover every direction, combine it with a close-range defensive weapon when enemies can approach from behind.

How to evolve it into Embrace of Gaea

  1. Raise Gaze of Gaea to level 8.
  2. Obtain Parm Aegis.
  3. Open a chest that can grant an evolution.

Parm Aegis only needs to be held at level 1 for this evolution.

If it does not unlock

  • Confirm the selected stage is The Coop.
  • Make sure the first chicken took no damage.
  • Wait for about one real-time minute even if the stage timer is not moving.
  • Retry with a character that cannot attack at the start.
