How to Unlock and Use Mask of the Red Death
Short answer: defeat the red Reaper that appears after the stage time limit
Item | Details |
|---|---|
Unlock | Defeat the red Reaper after a normal stage reaches its time limit |
Recommended setup | Infinite Corridor and Crimson Shroud |
Starting weapon | Death Spiral |
Mask of the Red Death becomes available after you defeat the red Reaper that appears when a normal stage reaches its time limit. Ordinary damage is usually not enough for a practical attempt, so unlock the late-game Clock Lancet and Laurel evolutions first.
Unlock steps
- Obtain the Yellow Sign.
- Prepare to evolve Clock Lancet into Infinite Corridor and Laurel into Crimson Shroud.
- Complete both evolutions during a normal stage.
- Keep attacking the red Reaper after the time limit until it is defeated.
- After the run, buy Mask of the Red Death from Character Selection.
Infinite Corridor helps reduce the enemy's durability, while Crimson Shroud limits incoming damage. Preparing both makes the attempt much more stable than relying on only one.
High-speed exploration after unlocking
Red Death starts with Death Spiral, the evolution of Axe. The character begins with 255 Max Health, +100% Move Speed, and +20% Might, providing wide attacks and fast movement immediately.
The movement bonus is especially useful for reaching distant coffins, relics, and secrets. This base-game Mask of the Red Death is different from the character named Death in the Ode to Castlevania DLC.
Common mistakes
- Surviving the time limit is not enough; defeat the red Reaper.
- Prepare Infinite Corridor and Crimson Shroud rather than relying on a normal damage build.
- The reward is the base-game Mask of the Red Death.
- Completing the condition still leaves a coin purchase in Character Selection.
