How to Unlock and Use Lance Bean
Quick answer: evolve Long Gun into Prototype A
Item | Details |
|---|---|
Required DLC | Operation Guns |
Unlock condition | Evolve Long Gun |
Starting weapon | Short Gun |
Next unlock | Evolve Short Gun to unlock Ariana |
Spell | `beanmachinegun` |
Lance Bean unlocks when you evolve Bill Rizer's Long Gun into Prototype A. After purchasing Lance, evolve his Short Gun into Prototype B to continue the chain and unlock Ariana.
Unlock steps
- Select Bill Rizer.
- Raise Long Gun to level 8.
- Obtain Weapon Power-Up.
- Open an evolution-capable chest and evolve Long Gun into Prototype A.
- Finish the run and purchase Lance Bean on character selection.
Weapon Power-Up is consumed by Operation Guns evolutions. If you are attempting multiple evolutions in one run, verify that another copy remains before planning the next one.
Spell alternative
After obtaining the Forbidden Scrolls of Morbane and unlocking spell entry, enter `beanmachinegun` in the Secrets menu. You still need the Operation Guns DLC.
Evolve Short Gun next
Requirement | Condition |
|---|---|
Short Gun | Level 8 (maximum) |
Weapon Power-Up | Hold it |
Bracer | Hold it |
Treasure chest | Open after meeting the requirements |
Short Gun evolves into Prototype B when it is at level 8 and you hold both Weapon Power-Up and Bracer. Completing this evolution unlocks Ariana. Unlike Long Gun, Short Gun needs an additional standard passive item, so keep a slot open for Bracer.
How to use Lance Bean
Lance starts with 150 Max Health, +20% Projectile Speed, +4 Skip, and +4 Banish. At increasing kill thresholds, he gains Projectile Speed and Cooldown reduction. Add a weapon that can keep defeating groups early so his passive continues to build while you level Short Gun.
For the Ariana unlock, reserve slots for both Weapon Power-Up and Bracer before filling your inventory. This prevents a run from reaching the chest phase without all required components.
If it does not unlock
- Unlock Bill Rizer first.
- Confirm that Long Gun reached level 8.
- Hold Weapon Power-Up before opening the chest.
- For Ariana, hold Bracer in addition to Short Gun and Weapon Power-Up.
- Finish the run and reopen character selection after the evolution.
