Compare functional milestones before filling small stat nodes

When choosing a path through Obsidian Art, look for milestones that change your options, such as equipment slots, Potions, or Statues, before filling every nearby HP node. There is no universal route. Move toward the feature that directly addresses the current cause of failure.

This guide is for beginners and early-progress players who have unlocked Obsidian Art but are unsure where to spend points.

Choose a milestone from the current problem

Current problem

Milestone to compare first

Why it matters

More equipment effects are needed

Equipment-slot nodes

Expands setup options outside a run

Potions run out early

Potion-related nodes

Adds room for longer attempts

The build rarely forms

Functional nodes such as Skill Statues

Adds choices during a run

HP or Armor is lost before mid-run

Healing, maximum-HP, or camp nodes

Supports consistency on regular waves

Gold or XP collection is the goal

Collection-related nodes

Helps separate farming and progression setups

Exact node names and positions may vary by language and version. Match these categories to the labels on the current tree.

Five steps for choosing a path

  1. Classify the last three failures as damage, survival, Potion supply, or build completion.
  2. Find a functional milestone on the current tree that changes that problem.
  3. Review only the nodes required to reach that milestone.
  4. After unlocking it, compare three attempts with the same equipment and target content.
  5. If it does not help, choose the next milestone without changing another system at the same time.

Opening branches only because they are close can delay the feature you actually need. Choose one goal and treat intermediate stat nodes as the route toward it.

When to compare equipment slots first

Equipment slots can expand setups used across several modes. If a useful ring or amulet is already owned but cannot be equipped, compare the slot milestone before another small HP increase.

An empty slot does not create immediate power when no useful item is available. Review owned equipment at the same time.

When to compare Potion milestones first

If Potions are gone before boss entry, compare Potion-related milestones. Also check whether the current Skill Card plan can connect Potions to healing, Armor, or damage.

When low damage causes extra incoming hits, more Potions may leave the underlying problem unchanged. Separate a survival shortage from a damage shortage.

When to compare Statue milestones first

Skill Statues, growth-related nodes, and other milestones that add choices during a run are candidates when a build rarely comes together. Public community discussions repeatedly place Statue milestones alongside equipment slots and Potions as useful mid-game targets.

More choices still need a direction. Use the added options to support one current axis, such as Critical, Potion, or Dodge, instead of starting a different plan every time.

Limits

  • Use the current screen for node costs, maximum ranks, and full-tree requirements.
  • An older tree image may not match the current layout.
  • Community priorities vary by play style and owned equipment.
  • One milestone may not solve a high-difficulty wall. Review equipment, Skill Cards, and Fortifications separately.
