Obsidian Knight Currency Guide: Darksteel, Orbs, and Rubies
In Obsidian Knight, currencies are easier to manage when you separate them by the system they improve. Darksteel, Obsidian Orbs, and Rubies do not all raise the same form of Power.
This guide shows the verified use, the question to ask before spending, and the detailed route for each resource.
The short answer: separate three upgrade targets
Currency or resource | Verified main target | Question before spending | Detailed guide |
|---|---|---|---|
Darksteel | Equipment-set upgrades | Have you chosen the current set and one upgrade target? | |
Obsidian Orb | Upgrades for collected Skill Cards | Did you select the card in the last three runs? | |
Rubies | Several purchases and persistent unlock candidates | Is the reward one-time, or does it remain in future runs? |
When a resource is unclear, do not identify it only by color or shape. Record the spending screen and effect text together.
Darksteel: improve equipment sets
The official iOS update history introduced Darksteel in connection with equipment-set upgrades. Check four values before spending:
- The equipment set currently in use
- The selected upgrade node
- The display that changes after upgrading
- One metric to compare in the same mode
Official information identifies Daily runs, Endless Dungeon, and Hunt as Darksteel routes. This guide does not fix payouts, reset times, total costs, or one best node without the current screen.
Darksteel and Shards from Mining have different names and uses. Match the icon, balance, and spending screen before using either resource.
Obsidian Orbs: improve Skill Cards
Obsidian Orbs upgrade collected Skill Cards. Instead of spreading them evenly, sort cards selected in the last three runs into these roles:
- A trigger such as Crit, Dodge, Potion use, or Stun
- A payoff that converts the trigger into damage, survival, or recovery
- Survival support used across several builds
- A card that is unused or cannot yet be explained
Upgrade one connected item that addresses the current failure. The detailed guide explains when to keep working on cards and when to inspect the Fortification screen.
Rubies: compare how long the effect remains
Public sources repeatedly recommend comparing persistent options such as Potion capacity or Artifacts before one-time equipment chests. This is not one universal purchase order.
Ask four questions before buying:
- Does the effect remain in future runs or after an equipment replacement?
- Does it directly reduce the current failure?
- Can a free reward or normal progression achieve the same goal?
- Will enough Rubies remain to compare the next candidate?
Use the current screen for prices, exchange rates, maximum slots, and limited offers.
Start from the current problem
Current problem | First resource or screen to inspect | Why |
|---|---|---|
You want to improve a set | Darksteel and the set tree | You can isolate one upgrade target |
The card build rarely forms | Obsidian Orbs and Skill Cards | You can improve a trigger and connected payoff |
Potions repeatedly run out | Ruby candidates and normal progression | You can compare persistent capacity with free alternatives |
Gold or equipment is missing | Normal progression, Treasure Run, and shops | Check free routes before a one-time purchase |
The cause is unclear | Separate the symptom before spending |
Save the balance when the failure has not been identified.
Early, mid, and late progression
Early
Equipment changes frequently, so compare benefits that remain across several runs before one-time rewards. Do not pre-buy a feature that is not available or useful on the current screen.
Mid
Match the resource to the mode currently blocking progress, such as Story, Ship, or Challenge. Do not change a set, several cards, and a persistent unlock at the same time.
Late
After major upgrades are owned, compare remaining Skill Cards, Fortifications, set upgrades, and saving for future updates. Public information does not establish one final universal order.
Five steps before and after spending
- Choose one current failure.
- Select one resource connected to that failure.
- Record the balance, effect text, and one before-upgrade metric.
- Change one item and retry the same mode three times.
- Compare one metric, such as stage reached, Potions remaining, card-chain completion, or defeat speed.
If the symptom does not improve, diagnose the failure before spending more of the same resource.
Common decision mistakes
- A larger Power display does not automatically solve the current failure.
- A persistent effect is not automatically first when it is not usable yet.
- A higher card rarity is not always the current build's priority.
- Equipment chests are not forbidden, but compare free routes and persistent options first.
- A community purchase order may not match a different account or version.
Values this guide does not fix
- Prices, exchange rates, and drop rates
- Fixed daily or weekly income and reset times
- Maximum slots, maximum card rank, and final Fortification tier
- One purchase or upgrade order for every player
- Limited offers and paid-package value
If the current display differs, follow the current game screen.
