Obsidian Knight Beginner Resource Mistakes
Bottom line: spend for a specific problem, not because the balance is full
The main early-game resource mistake is not spending itself. It is spending the entire balance without deciding what the purchase should improve.
Review your last three runs and choose the failure that happened most often:
- you died early;
- Potions ran out;
- normal enemies took too long to defeat;
- progress stopped at a boss; or
- the required Skill Card chain did not form.
Then compare only the resource that directly relates to that problem: Rubies, Obsidian Orbs, or Darksteel. Change one thing at a time so the result remains measurable.
Do not mix up the three resources
Resource | Confirmed main role | Check before spending |
|---|---|---|
Rubies | Compare lasting unlocks with one-time purchase results | Whether the benefit survives an equipment replacement and whether a free alternative exists |
Obsidian Orbs | Upgrade collected Skill Cards | Whether you selected the card in the last three runs and whether it is a trigger or a payoff |
Darksteel | Progress through set upgrade trees | Total cost including prerequisites and whether the Armor or Weapon branch matches the current failure |
Official update notes connect Darksteel with the Daily run, Endless Dungeon, Hunt, and set upgrades. Exact payouts and a universal best farming route are not stated here because availability and values can differ by progression and current version.
Six resource mistakes to avoid
1. Spending before checking the resource and destination screen
Materials that look similar can have different uses. Before spending, capture the icon, balance, destination screen, and upgrade target together. Wait if you cannot explain which resource is being spent on which system.
2. Choosing a one-time result before comparing lasting value
For Rubies, compare a one-time result such as an equipment purchase with any lasting unlock shown on your current screen. Community discussions repeatedly recommend checking permanent value first, but an unlock that does not address your current problem should not automatically win.
3. Upgrading Skill Cards you do not use
Obsidian Orbs upgrade collected Skill Cards. Before spreading upgrades across the collection, record the cards selected in your last three runs and whether each card starts or completes a chain. Hold upgrades that do not support a chain you actually use.
4. Comparing a Darksteel node without its prerequisites
The price shown on one visible node may not represent the total cost of reaching the desired effect. Compare the target node, prerequisites, current balance, and total displayed route cost before choosing between Armor and Weapon branches.
5. Changing several systems at once
If equipment, Skill Cards, and set upgrades all change together, the useful change cannot be identified. Upgrade one item, then repeat the same mode or a similar condition three times. Compare progress, defeat reason, Potions remaining, and boss progress.
6. Copying a fixed tier list or old price
Competitor guides and community posts may present one purchase order, cost, or payout as universal. Inventory, progression, and game updates can change the decision. Do not rely on a value that you cannot confirm on your own screen.
Six steps before spending
- Choose the most common failure from the last three runs.
- Narrow the candidate to Rubies, Orbs, or Darksteel.
- Check the effect, prerequisites, cost, and remaining balance on the destination screen.
- Check whether normal progression or a free source can provide the same result.
- Upgrade one item and repeat the same condition three times.
- If the result does not improve, stop spending and diagnose a different failure.
