Obsidian Knight Ruby Spending Priorities
In Obsidian Knight, compare Rubies by how many future runs benefit from the purchase instead of following a fixed shopping order. Public community sources repeatedly recommend reviewing persistent options such as Potion slots or Artifacts before one-time equipment chests.
Answer four questions before spending
- Does the benefit remain in future runs or after an equipment replacement?
- Does it directly reduce the problem blocking progress now?
- Can normal progression or a free reward achieve the same goal?
- Will enough Rubies remain to compare the next necessary option?
If you cannot answer all four, save the balance until the effect is clear. “Permanent,” “expensive,” and “rare” do not establish priority on their own.
Put the purchase into one of four groups
Group | Examples discussed in public sources | Decision |
|---|---|---|
Persistent capacity or automation | Potion slots and features that support repeated runs | Compare early if you will use the effect in many runs |
Persistent Artifact effects | Unlocks that continue to affect combat or rewards | Match the effect to the current wall |
Exchange for Skill Card resources | Growth for cards you already use | Choose the card and verify the current exchange first |
One-time or uncertain purchases | Equipment chests and similar rewards | Compare persistent options and free routes first |
This is not a complete shop list. Names, prices, locations, and exchange rates can change, so treat the current game screen as the source of truth.
Choose from the current progression problem
You die too early
First check equipment, level, and normal progression. If Potions run out or recovery repeatedly fails after those checks, compare a persistent Potion-capacity or survival effect that applies to future runs.
After buying, retry the same mode three times and compare the first failure point and Potions remaining.
The Skill Card build rarely forms
Separate upgrades for frequently used Skill Cards, persistent effects that support the start or choices, and unwanted-card control. Before exchanging Rubies for another resource, decide which card will receive the upgrade.
Improving a trigger and its connected payoff is easier to evaluate than spreading resources evenly across every card. See Skill Card selection.
Gold or equipment is missing
Before buying an equipment chest with Rubies, check normal sources through Story, PvP, Treasure Run, and shops. One-time equipment can be replaced. Do not compare it to a persistent Gold or progression effect as if both had the same lifetime.
You cannot decide what to buy
Save the currency and record the current candidates. Public discussions disagree on whether Artifacts, Skill upgrades, or saving for future updates should come next because the answer changes with account ownership and progression.
Early, mid, and late progression
Early: compare effects used in repeated runs
Equipment changes frequently early on, so compare capacity, Artifacts, and progression effects that carry into multiple runs before a one-time equipment reward. Do not pre-buy a feature that is not available or useful yet.
Mid: buy only for the current wall
As more modes unlock, check whether the purchase helps the mode that is currently blocked. An early Story death, a long Ship run, and a special Challenge condition do not necessarily need the same effect.
Late: compare remaining upgrades with saving
After major persistent options are owned, compare Skill Card resources, remaining persistent effects, and saving for future updates. Public sources do not establish one universal order. Use current ownership and current prices.
Why equipment chests are often delayed
Community advice repeatedly warns against spending Rubies on equipment chests because:
- The reward is used once.
- The contents may not fit the current build.
- Normal progression and shops may replace the equipment.
- The same currency can buy options that affect many runs.
This is not a game rule that forbids the purchase. Once persistent options are covered, and the contents, price, and purpose are understood, it can still be compared with other candidates.
Pre-purchase checklist
Question | Yes | No |
|---|---|---|
Does the effect remain in future runs? | Keep as a priority candidate | Recheck the one-time value |
Does it reduce the current failure? | Include it in a three-run test | Delay it |
Is there no free or normal alternative? | Keep the candidate | Test the alternative first |
Can you explain the trigger and use? | Check the current price | Save until it is clear |
Will Rubies remain after buying? | Spend only the needed amount | Avoid emptying the balance |
Check the result after buying
- Record the Ruby balance and effect text before purchase.
- Retry the same mode and difficulty three times.
- Compare the metric tied to the goal: stage reached, Potions remaining, or card-chain completion.
- If the symptom does not improve, diagnose the failure before buying more of the same type.
Spending currency is not the result. Measure which failure changed.
Values this guide does not fix

- Maximum Potion or equipment slot counts
- Limited-time and future-update products
- Paid-package value
