Obsidian Knight Challenge and Nightmare Strategy Guide
Diagnose one failure first in Challenge and Nightmare
The official iOS version history states that Challenges were added for Act III. When a Challenge or Nightmare run stalls, record the first point of failure before trying to improve every part of the account at once.
This guide is for players repeating the same high-difficulty stage, losing even after a promising Skill Card draw, or deciding whether to retry or return to permanent upgrades.
Check the screen before entering
- Confirm the selected Act, difficulty, and Challenge name.
- Read any visible special rule, restriction, or completion condition.
- Choose one main trigger, such as Critical, Potion, or Dodge.
- Choose one effect to connect to that trigger, such as Stun, recovery, or multi-target damage.
- Change only the item matching the previous run's first failure.
Use the current game screen for unlock requirements and rewards. Public official version history does not establish every Challenge condition or reward.
Fix the first point that breaks
First symptom | Possible cause | Change for the next attempt |
|---|---|---|
Potions are exhausted against early regular enemies | Base survival or recovery frequency is too low | Check one permanent Armor, HP, or Potion upgrade |
Enemy groups keep accumulating | The setup is too single-target focused | Connect one multi-target or Explosion effect to a trigger such as Critical |
Only a strong enemy stops the run | The enemy acts too often, or sustained damage is too low | Add either one Stun route or one recovery chain |
Potions run out near the end | Refill triggers and use effects are disconnected | Connect one Critical, Dodge, or defeat trigger to Potion refill |
A strong run still fails the condition | A special rule may have been missed | Keep the same difficulty and reread the pre-run condition |
Results vary sharply between runs | The Skill Card draw has a large effect | Repeat the same plan three times and compare the stopping point |
Changing equipment, card direction, and permanent upgrades together makes it impossible to identify what helped.
Three practical high-difficulty chains
Use Critical as the trigger
Do not stop at Critical chance. Connect Critical to one multi-target attack, Stun, Potion refill, or recovery effect. One recurring trigger can then help both crowd clearing and control against stronger enemies.
Build a Potion loop
Separate the condition that refills a Potion from the effect gained when it is used. Refill through a recurring source such as Critical or Dodge, then connect the Potion to recovery, Armor repair, damage, or Stun. Short battles may end before every required card appears, so do not wait only for a complete Potion chain from the opening draw.
Reduce incoming actions with Dodge and Stun
Connect Dodge to an attack, recovery, or Potion effect instead of raising Dodge alone. Treat Stun as control that prevents actions and Explosion as a way to continue clearing after a defeat. Reports also describe enemies that resist Stun or Explosion, so keep direct damage or recovery as a fallback.
Remove unwanted Skill Cards from the pool
Official version history describes a feature that removes unwanted skills from the fight pool and provides access from the pre-fight screen.
- Decide which trigger the run will not use.
- Remove cards outside the planned chain from the pre-fight setting.
- Record three attempts to see whether the main trigger and effect appear more consistently.
- Check that essential defense or recovery was not removed.
Card names and the current removal limits may change, so follow the current settings screen.
Decide between retrying and permanent upgrades in three runs
Attempt | Condition | Record |
|---|---|---|
1 | Keep the current equipment and settings | First failure, stopping point, and main chain |
2 | Change one item matching the failure | Whether the stopping point moved |
3 | Repeat the second attempt's plan | Whether the improvement is reproducible |
If all three runs end at the same early point, stop waiting only for card luck and return to permanent systems such as equipment, Skill Card upgrades, Fortifications, or Armor Set upgrades. If the run reaches the late section and different card chains change the result, keep the plan fixed and retry.
Keep Challenge and Nightmare records separate
Results are not directly comparable when the visible rule or difficulty differs. Record the Act, mode name, Challenge name, and displayed condition, then compare normal progression, Challenge, and Nightmare separately.
