Obsidian Knight Skill Synergy Guide: How to Build a Run
Build synergy as trigger, payoff, and loop
An Obsidian Knight build does not become reliable by collecting every card that looks strong. Choose one repeatable trigger, connect payoffs that activate from it, and create a loop that returns to damage or survival.
Official descriptions identify skill combinations as a core part of each run. Before memorizing card names or a fixed tier list, identify which part of the chain each card performs.
Build in four steps
Step | Question | Examples |
|---|---|---|
1. Trigger | What can occur repeatedly? | Critical, Dodge, Potion use, Stun, kill |
2. Payoff | What happens immediately after it? | Multi-target attack, healing, Armor repair, Stun, Explosion |
3. Loop | Does the payoff create the next trigger? | Survive longer, refill a Potion, or defeat the next enemy |
4. Missing role | What can the build not handle? | Crowds, durable targets, ranged attacks, or timeout |
A payoff chosen before its trigger will not activate consistently. A high trigger rate also adds little when no attack, recovery, or control effect follows it.
Four practical chains
Critical trigger
Treat Critical chance, multi-target effects on Critical, Stun, and Potion or healing effects as one chain rather than increasing Critical alone.
- Establish a repeatable Critical source.
- Check whether a Critical reaches more targets.
- Connect recovery or Potion effects when survival is missing.
- Keep direct damage when one durable enemy remains.
Use the Critical build guide to separate triggers from payoffs.
Dodge trigger
A Dodge chain combines answers to melee or ranged attacks with attacks, recovery, or Potion effects after a Dodge and Armor recovery that keeps conditional effects active.
- Separate melee from ranged incoming damage.
- Check the Dodge source for that attack type.
- Identify what activates after a Dodge.
- Keep Armor, recovery, and direct damage for attacks that are not avoided.
The Dodge build guide checks whether the post-Dodge chain is complete.
Potion trigger
A Potion loop refills Potions from Critical, Dodge, kills, or another visible condition, then returns Potion use to healing, Armor repair, attack, or Stun.
- Add a refill condition instead of only spending Potions.
- Choose one result you need from Potion use.
- Check whether that result keeps the run alive until the next refill.
- Reduce required cards when short battles end before the loop is complete.
Use the Potion and healing build to inspect both refill and consumption.
Stun and Explosion chain
Stun controls enemy actions. Explosion and Execute connect a kill or condition to the next enemy. Attach them to repeatable Critical, Potion, Dodge, or kill triggers.
Reports indicate that some high-difficulty enemies respond poorly to Stun or Explosion. Keep direct damage and survival as alternatives rather than depending on control alone.
The Stun and Explosion build includes a fallback for enemies that do not stop.
Change priorities during a run
Phase | Prioritize | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
Opening | Establish one trigger | Taking several unrelated triggers |
Middle | Connect up to two payoffs | Adding cards whose conditions cannot occur |
Late | Cover the first failure while maintaining the loop | Abandoning a working chain for a new core |
When a three-card offer is unclear, use the Skill Card selection guide in this order: trigger, payoff, role, cards required, and run phase.
Disable cards to improve completion rate
Official update information describes removing unwanted Skill Cards from battle offers and opening that setting from the pre-battle screen.
Review a card for removal when it:
- does not connect to the chosen trigger
- has a payoff for a condition the build does not use
- does not address the current failure
- duplicates a role and increases the cards needed for completion
Use how to disable Skill Cards for the setting. This guide does not assume an unverified minimum pool size or fixed removal list.
Choose the next card from the failure
First failure | Role to add next |
|---|---|
Normal enemies keep accumulating | Multi-target, rear-line, or Explosion chain |
One durable enemy remains | Direct damage and repeatable single-target pressure |
The run ends early | Early Dodge, recovery, Armor, or Potion loop |
Potions run out | A refill condition or survival that does not require Potions |
The run times out | Repeatable damage without excessive defense |
The build never completes | Fewer required cards and fewer irrelevant offers |
Use the failed-run diagnosis when the first failure is not yet clear.
Verify synergy over three runs
- Record the current trigger, payoffs, and first failure.
- Change one payoff that addresses the failure.
- Test the same destination three times and compare the end point and remaining Potion or Armor.
- Keep a reproducible improvement; otherwise change one different role.
