Vampire Survivors Build Basics
How to build a reliable loadout
Choose one objective, secure one main weapon and its evolution item, then use the remaining slots to cover what the build cannot handle. A build is easier to finish when every pickup has a role instead of copying six weapons from a completed screenshot.
This guide covers normal solo base-game rules. It does not assume large Golden Egg bonuses, DLC weapons, or a special weapon-limit challenge.
Start with the purpose of the run
Run objective | What the build needs | Base-game example |
|---|---|---|
Travel to a coffin or relic | A way to clear the direction you are moving | Knife fires in the direction the character faces |
Stop nearby enemies from closing in | Attacks that automatically engage close targets | Magic Wand targets a nearby enemy |
Hold space while collecting experience | Coverage around the character | King Bible orbits around the character |
These examples describe attack patterns, not a universal ranking. Choose a pattern that solves the immediate problem in the run.
Reserve a slot for an evolution item
A simple practice combination is Magic Wand and Empty Tome:
- Take Magic Wand as the main weapon.
- Keep one passive-item slot available for Empty Tome.
- Raise Magic Wand to level 8.
- Open a chest that can produce an evolution while holding Empty Tome.
- Take Holy Wand when the evolution appears.
Empty Tome also reduces weapon cooldown, so it continues to support the build after satisfying the evolution pairing.
Magic Wand automatically attacks a nearby enemy. It does not let you choose a distant target or freely clear a specific direction. Add a directional weapon when a travel route is blocked, or an area weapon when enemies approach from several sides.
Protect passive-item slots
Under normal solo rules, level-up choices fill six passive-item slots. Taking six unrelated passive items before finding the item needed for your main evolution can block the planned pairing.
Use this order when a passive item appears:
- Take the evolution item for the chosen main weapon.
- Once the pairing is secured, continue raising the main weapon.
- Take an unplanned passive only when it solves a current weakness.
Some stages place passive items on the ground, and those items can be collected after the six level-up slots are full. Do not make a dangerous detour unless the stage pickup is part of the plan. The stage-item route guide explains that exception.
Adapt when the planned item does not appear
Keep upgrading useful weapons while waiting. If Empty Tome is not unlocked yet, use a run to hold six different weapons and complete its unlock condition.
Do not wait indefinitely for one perfect pairing. If another owned weapon already has its evolution item, finishing that evolution can be more reliable than leaving every weapon incomplete.
After a failed run, identify one problem:
- If damage was too low before any evolution, concentrate upgrades into fewer weapons.
- If enemies blocked the travel direction, add a controllable directional attack.
- If enemies reached you from several sides, add area coverage.
- If the evolution item never fit, reserve its passive slot earlier.
Change one decision on the next run so the result is easy to compare.
Quick checklist
- Define one objective for the run.
- Choose one main weapon.
- Reserve its evolution-item slot.
- Upgrade the main weapon before spreading levels too widely.
- Use remaining slots to cover direction, range, or surrounding enemies.
- Review one failure point after the run.
